Language Arts
| The Language Arts program at Avance emphasizes well-rounded, college-preparatory literacy. Students read, analyze and discuss challenging novels, short-stories, poetry, speeches and essays in every course. Each piece is carefully chosen to reflect society, history, philosophy and self. All texts are approved by the State of California. Writing is an essential component to each ELA course. Students are expected to write thoroughly developed and thoughtful essays employing each of the rhetorical strategies and strong control of English grammar and conventions. Since strong vocabulary is the cornerstone of literacy, Avance's vocabulary program is extensive. Each course builds the students' word bank through best practices obtained from NCLR conferences and the study of Greek and Latin roots. |
